1. Greetings and Introductions
Joyce Simmons greeted the members of the Executive Committee and called the
meeting to order.
2. Minutes of the September 23rd, 2008
Meeting
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as circulated electronically.
3. Fall 2008 Initiation
Time and location: Bruce Bickley had
reported via e-mail that the Beth Moor Lounge, the Werkmeister Room, and all
major meeting rooms in the Student Union were booked for Thursday, November 13,
the date that we had decided upon at our previous meeting. Joyce Simmons
reported that she had reserved the Weichelt Lounge, in case we could not find a
better location. Bruce will order 60 extra folding chairs from the Service
Center, to augment the 35 or so that already furnish the Weichelt LoungeIt was
generally agreed that the Weichelt Lounge would be an excellent choice. The
initiation will begin at 6 pm; we will, however, request that initiates and
their guests arrive at 5:30.
4. Election of Invitees for Fall,
2008, Initiation
George Weaver had examined the records of all juniors and seniors and compiled a
list of eligible students. He had
e-mailed the list to the secretary and president and also had a hard copy at the
meeting. Jerry Fisher moved that we elect the candidates; Bruce Bickley seconded
the motion; and the members voted unanimously to do so.
5. Action Plan for Contacting
Invitees
It was decided to wait until early next week to send invitations, so that we
will be able to inform the students of the new website and will also have
information about the speaker at the ceremony. We should include in the
invitations a request for the addresses of parents, so that we can officially
invite them to the ceremony. We should also add a request to summer graduates
that they e-mail the address to which they wish their certificate to be sent. We
should ask Aaron Chapnick and Annelise Leysieffer to divide the list of current
invitees among the 2007-2008 junior initiates and request that they contact them
and urge them to join. Mark Winegardner has offered to choose faculty in each
department to contact electees in their department and urge them to join. Paula
Gerson, in Art History, has volunteered to contact students in her department.
6. Cara Engel's Visit
It was suggested that we invite Cara Engel to schedule her annual visit to
coincide with Jonathan Ames’ talk on January 27.
7. Initiatives
A. PBK Alpha of Florida Website, Facebook Page, Program Assistant:
Jerry Fisher reported that James Dickson is working on the website and
should be finished soon.

concerning choosing and getting into graduate school.
